Iconic Coach Tests Positive, for Real This Time

Newser — Newser Editors

Alabama football is No. 1 in the country, and coach Nick Saban won't be leading his team in Saturday's annual Iron Bowl rivalry game against No. 22 Auburn.

The university on Wednesday confirmed Saban has tested positive for COVID-19. The same thing happened in mid-October, but that diagnosis was determined to be a false positive after he subsequently tested negative three times, reports Sports Illustrated.

Not so this time. The university confirms he has "very mild symptoms, so this test will not be categorized as a potential false positive." CBS Sports notes Alabama lost to Auburn last year.

ESPN reports the 69-year-old will isolate for a minimum of 10 days, meaning he could be back one day before the team's Dec. 5 scheduled end to the regular season at Arkansas.
