15 days for BoT governor applicationsBangkok Post, Thailand — Wichit Chantanusornsiri Bangkok Post, Thailand
May 23-- May 23--The application period for the next governor of the Bank of Thailand will last for 15 business days, from May 26 to June 16, and the shortlist of candidates will be concluded by July 2.
The selection committee for the central bank's new chief will hold a meeting on June 18 to make a list of all applicants to present their vision in late June, said Rangsan Sriworasart, chairman of the committee.
The presentation is limited to four pages, either on PowerPoint slides or paper, he said, with the presentation and interview process to be completed within one day.
The candidates will not be announced until the selection process is finished, Mr Rangsan said.
If there is only one candidate or no candidates, the application period will be extended.
With the bleak economic outlook from the pandemic, the central bank's next governor will face a challenging task, Mr Rangsan said.
The committee must name two shortlisted candidates and propose them to Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana, who will pick the next governor and forward his selection to the cabinet for nomination before seeking royal appointment, he said.
The new head of the central bank will replace Veerathai Santiprabhob, whose five-year term is due to end in September.
The nomination process requires a new governor to be appointed at least 90 days before the end of the incumbent's term.
Applicants must not be older than 60 on the date of the cabinet's nomination. They must have a bachelor's degree from an educational institution certified by the Office of the Civil Service Commission.
